PROPOSAL REVIEW M BORDIER
Xin Art Galerie presents a focused selection of works by French artist Muriel Bordier, whose practice examines the individual’s place within collective systems and social conventions. Muriel Bordier conceives and stages each scene herself, directing the people who appear in her photographs and placing them within carefully constructed environments where order, repetition and apparent normality gradually give way to ambiguity and absurdity.
Moving between leisure, borders, religion and public space, she uses humour, scale and subtle disruption to question the structures that organise contemporary life. Her work combines photography, mise-en-scène and digital composition, creating images that oscillate between reality and fiction.

Artistic Practice
Muriel Bordier develops a photographic practice centred on humour, displacement and the observation of contemporary communities. She examines their codes and rituals, exaggerating familiar behaviours until they become absurd or comic. Human figures remain central to her work: she photographs her sitters in staged poses before digitally integrating them into environments she has entirely created, producing carefully constructed sociological micro-fictions between reality and fiction.
